I know centerfire ammo is generally more accurate and powerful but are there any situations where people use rimfire for serious occasions?

When you mention 'rimfire,' I assume you're referring to calibers like .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle. While rimfire cartridges have mostly faded from widespread use, .22 LR remains one of the few still popular today.

The .22 caliber is too small to accommodate a centerfire primer, so rimfire was chosen as a practical alternative. Despite its historical importance, rimfire ammunition doesn't really offer any distinct advantages anymore.

The continued popularity of the .22 LR and its variants comes down to the sheer number of firearms chambered for it and the fact that it has been a core part of shooting and hunting culture for generations. The low cost of production makes it accessible in many countries.

Cheap to produce  if your just starting out the recoil is likely to be less on ya.Which works for new shooters. The .22 LR is perfect for hunting small game with Suppressor compatibility subsonic .22 LR and when paired with a suppressor they create an incredibly quiet shooting experience which is perfect for discrete shootin

Rimfire ammo is much lighter, making it easy to carry in bulk.  No way is it deal for self-defense—if you're taking on a bear you probably will be a goner. If you are using ammo that is not powerful enough for your prey there is a far greater chance it gets away, which is why most states have regulations on the minimum caliber required for different types of game.

On the flip side having a .22 is a good idea because it’s lightweight and easy to take on the go. It’s also one of the most widely produced rounds, making it one of the first to be restocked after shortages and one of the last to disappear when supply runs low—making a great emergency tool.

it's cheaper is the only reason to pick over centerfire. Centerfire is the modern quo.

Less power and less reliable. You should keep them in your storage closet in case we ever face a situation where ammo is unavailable, so you have a .22 caliber on hand for your defense.

@firestorm3625412458965 Understand the context triangle... If  THEY stop letting us buy ammo buy a bunch for cheap. In an apocalypse situation that is how you will get your food. So maybe for you it wouldn't be helpful but for me it sure in the heck will. Maybe fix your profile pic before commenting back at me.
