TriggerTalker

Hi everyone! TriggerTalker here! I am looking for this new forum. Let's see what y'all recommend for a beginner gun.
Depends what you want to use it for... are you looking to get a gun for CCW, self defense, competition, hunting, recreational use at the range? There are so many different reasons why someone might want to purchase a gun so maybe narrow that down before you jump into spending your cash on something you may not need or use.

@bullseye23 Gonna get my numbie son a gun for his birthday. He has his license now. We are a big hunting family, now he is going to have something to come along with me. He does need more time at the range I will say.
@triggertalker for fun - start out with a 22. for self defense - consider a quality 9mm like a glock
Something he can conceal like a s&w compact 2.0 is a good idea. Glocks are obviously popular among beginners due to their manageable size easy to shoot and conceal. Glocks will always have a vast aftermarket for accessories and modifications. If you have a range, you visit do they have rental options? He can try different models then you see what works best for him

Bolt action 308, If you are looking to potential get him something for hunting?
He should have a gun that is easy to get ammo for, easy to care for and easy to shoot.
What is he going to use it for more often than not? If you bring him to the range, have him try many different types to see how each fits his hand, how the recoil feels, etc. If he is new, the most important thing is PRACTICE! So, ultimately, consider the cost of ammo—cheaper options will allow him more time to practice at the range.
If it’s for self-defense, a Sig Sauer P226 with 15-round 9mm ammunition is ideal. It’s a good gun to “grow into” since it’s a bit more complex than simpler pistols. It’s great for learning maintenance once you strip it down, which can provide serious knowledge. He can also get creative with modifications, leading to a better understanding of his preferences for future gun purchases.
If you’re thinking about a gun for game, the Remington 870 pump-action shotgun is a great beginner weapon. It features a well-machined receiver and comes in variations of 12, 20, and .410-gauge.
For hunting, consider getting him a Ruger 10/22 for small game. It’s light, handy, and makes an excellent small-game rifle. Plus, it’s fun to shoot!
There’s a lot to consider, and I hope my brief recommendations are helpful. Most importantly, focus on safety and practice. Just get him out there with his gun and help him understand the weapon. From there, he can explore different options based on his preferences.

Nice.
